Our Journey

SingularLeaf was founded with a simple intention: to bring authentic Taiwanese tea to those who value origin, craftsmanship and quiet excellence.

Our journey began in Taiwan - exploring tea gardens, learning from experienced tea masters, and understanding the artistry behind cultivation and production. From mist-covered mountain plantations to small family-run estates, we sought not only exceptional tea, but the stories and traditions carried within each leaf.

Countless hours spent studying processing methods, tasting harvests, and building direct relationships with growers shaped the foundation of SingularLeaf. Today, we work directly with selected Taiwanese tea farms, including long-established family producers whose heritage spans generations.

We do not simply source tea - we preserve character, origin and the spirit of craftsmanship passed down through time. In 2026, SingularLeaf begins its next chapter: sharing this carefully curated collection with you.

Why Taiwan

Tea is one of the world’s most cherished beverages - valued for centuries not only for its taste, but for its cultural depth and restorative qualities. In ancient China, tea inspired legends, poetry and even imperial status. The finest harvests were reserved for the Emperor, honoured as gifts for the “Son of Heaven.”

All true tea comes from a single plant - Camellia sinensis. While many camellia varieties grow around the world, only this particular species produces high-quality tea. Around 300 years ago, tea plants were brought from mainland China to Taiwan, where they adapted remarkably to the island’s unique environment.

It is here that a distinctive tea culture was born.

The Character of Taiwanese Tea

Taiwan is especially renowned for its Oolong tea - partially oxidised and masterfully crafted. The island’s climate and terrain have made Oolong its signature style, celebrated globally for its balance, elegance and aromatic complexity.

Alongside Oolong, Taiwan also produces refined black and green teas, including the famous Ruby Red (Hong Yu), known for its depth and natural sweetness.

Each producing region has its own classification system reflecting local traditions and standards. At SingularLeaf, we follow the Taiwanese approach - honouring the methods and craftsmanship developed on the island itself.

What Makes Taiwanese Tea Unique

Though geographically close to mainland China, Taiwan differs profoundly in origin and landscape. The island’s volcanic soil, humid subtropical climate, ocean winds and frequent mountain mists create ideal conditions for cultivating exceptional tea.

These natural advantages allow many farms to grow tea without intensive chemical intervention. Combined with relatively young tea soils - cultivated for less than three centuries - the land remains rich and expressive.

The result is tea that reflects clarity of origin: vibrant, layered, and remarkably pure.
